Anybody But Him by Claire Baxter

A deliciously funny rom com from Random Romance. What happens when you fall in love with the man you hate?
Nicola Doyle’s dating record is a disaster, and it doesn’t improve when she returns to Redgum Valley, after an absence of twelve years, to look after her increasingly eccentric parents.
There, she’s thrown into regular contact with Blair Morrissey – the very reason she couldn’t wait to leave town in the first place.
The decade-old scars are still raw from that humiliating day in high school – when Blair went from the boy she loved to the boy she hated.Except Blair doesn’t seem to be a ‘bad boy’ any more – in fact, he’s charming, infuriatingly helpful and extremely attractive.
If only Nicola could forgive and forget . . .

What happens if the boy who made you feel inadequate and dorky, suddenly becomes a helpful human being?
This is the predicament that Nicola finds herself in when she moves back home on a temporary basis and comes face to face with the man who caused her so much hurt at school.
But Blair appears to be a changed man, it’s just a shame that Nicola’s head and heart can’t forget……

Claire Baxter brings us a charming novella that shows that it’s not always easy to forgive and forget, especially when words have cut so deep.

The story has a wonderful mix of characters, from Nicola’s slightly disorganised parents, to Blair the helpful rugged neighbour.
There is even a dog with a fantastic name, who certainly keeps his owner on his toes!

I thought Nicola was a great character, I really empathised with her, the thought of facing someone who made me feel so bad about myself, terrifies me and yet after moving back home, Nicola did it on a daily basis.

This is a lovely read, which kept me occupied all afternoon, I only wish it had been longer!

4/5
