The Things We Do For Love by Alice Peterson

Love may hurt, but not loving hurts even more . . .

January Wild loves her daughter, her dog and her childhood home by the sea.

Single parenting is tough, but January has no regrets. She has a job she loves, a happy home and the support of her beloved grandfather. The arrival of a new boss, however, threatens to shake up January’s safe world.

Ward Metcalfe loves great sales results and a well-run office.

Everyone at her office agrees: Ward is a soulless, corporate slave driver. Even Spud, the company mascot, dislikes him.

A secret stands between them.

Yet over time January sees there is more to Ward than meets the eye. Rumours circulate. What exactly is he hiding? and is January prepared to risk everything to find out?

A big thank you to Alainna at Quercus for sending me a copy to review!

The Things We Do For Love starts by introducing the reader to the main protagonist January Wild as she searches for a new home. Jump forward eight years and you find yourself with both January and her young daughter Isla.

This transition sees the first of many jumps in the timeline as you journey with January through past and present. The dual timeline flows fluidly and allows readers to see the events that unfolded in January’s past.

January hasn’t had the easiest life, as a young baby both herself and her brother Lucas went to live with their grandparents after the death of their parents.
Although her life never lacked love she still felt the void her parents death had left behind. Now as a single mum to daughter Isla, January finds herself the sole earner for a beautiful daughter who is living with Cerebral Palsy.

January is a wonderful character, she has an inspirational strength that has never allowed her to give up despite what life has thrown at her and is a fantastic mother. She is extremely lucky to have a great support network in her grandparents and her relationship with her grandmother really warmed my heart.

Isla and her dog Spud add some light hearted moments to the story and show that dogs aren’t just a mans best friend!

Alice Peterson always manages to write stories that speak to your heart and leave you astounded at not just the strength of the characters but the positivity that they find during their hardest of times.

Incredible!
